EURO 2020: Belgium V Italy

With Spain already qualified to the Semi’s , Belgium and Italy battled it out in Munich today to decide who will face them . Kevin De Bruyne was expected to miss the match but surprisingly the Manchester City star man was fit enough to start for the Belgians but captain Hazard is yet to recover .

In the 13th minute , Bonnuci scored for the Italians from a cross coming from a set piece but it was ruled off for offside by VAR. Belgium had a couple of chances with key man de Bruyne leading them . In the 31st minute , Barella set things going with a goal after a failed Belgian clearance .

Belgian hearts were further broken with a beautiful striker by Insigne in the 43rd minute to extend the lead to two goals . Italy thought they would go to half time with a 2-0 lead but Belgium won a penalty in extra time of the first half when Di Lorenzo couldn’t put in the right tackle to stop Jeremy Doku . Lukaku stepped up to take the penalty and converted calmly to ensure the first half finished 2-1.

The second half started with Italy taking control of the half by pushing on the attack and stopping Belgium from getting on the ball. Belgium managed to create some chances but the strong Italian defence repelled their efforts with a major one bein Spinazzola’s off the line block of Lukaku’s shot . Italy defended more and this repelled all of Belgium’s attack.

The match ended 2-1 with Italy going through to face Spain . The top performers for tonight’s match were Insigne and Jeremy Doku.
