The International Football Association Board (IFAB) have announced that teams will be allowed to use five substitutes per match next season.
The measure was introduced for the remainder of the current campaign after the lengthy break in the season because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The reason for its introduction was to protect the players’ fitness ahead of a congested fixture list, but now it could be here to stay.
This is because of the small rest period in between this season and the next one, especially for those playing in European competitions.
It will be up to each individual league as to whether they decide to keep the new rule for next season.
